Winter Wine Festival 2008 VIP kick-off party

We were given the task of transforming a horse barn into a luxurious VIP venue. The evening began with the room lit in a simple, yet vivid, black and white, static look. Four large video screens displayed a collage of classic b&w footage of heroes. During this time, a band played background music while guests continued to arrive. At about the time the room felt boring, honorary speakers took the stage for a quick speech. After the speeches, a guest solo vocalist and children's choir joined the band. Shortly into their first number, the entire room transitioned from a still b&w into a swirling room of color. The four large projection surfaces changed to color pictures of children and colored logos. The negative outdoor elements were minimized by wrapping the outside of the open-air barn in spandex stars. This also provided a great surface for lighting. Two lighting balloons with colored covers and hero logos were used to light a cigar bar and valet. An arsenal of conventional lighting was used to light chef stations, the main bar, exotic cars and motorcycles. Onstage, a front wash for the band was achieved using small LED fixtures. Speeches and music were heard through a flown line-array sound system and Yamaha digital consoles. The event went off without a hitch leaving only one question... How will we out-do ourselves next year?
